Nam Lui commune is one of the communes with the highest number of cassia cultivation in Bac Ha district (Lao Cai) according to reports that Bac Ha district has nearly 8,000 hectares of cassia, while Nam Lui has 2,800 hectares. Nam Lui focuses on developing organic cassia trees, in association with land allocation and forest allocation for people to adopt, protect and plant forests. Every year, Nam Lui strives to plant over 400 hectares of cassia trees.
Currently, in Nam Luu, Bac Ha and Lao Cai communes, 1 cooperative and 13 cooperative groups are growing cassia in 10/10 villages, with 451 members. Activities of cooperatives and cooperative groups contribute to supporting and promoting household economic development, helping each other to reduce poverty sustainably, developing production and consumption of products, and actively associating with enterprises in purchasing products. products for the people.
Nam Kha village 2, Nam Lui commune, has 127 households with 591 people, of which the Mong ethnic group has 25 households, the Dao ethnic group has 71 households, and the rest are Kinh people. This is also a bright spot for economic development and poverty reduction. Mr. Truong Van Tim, head of Nam Kha 2 village, Nam Lui commune proudly said; “In the past time, the State has paid attention to investing, especially supporting cassia varieties and fertilizers for poor households to have conditions to rise up. Currently, in the village, mainly organic cassia is grown as the key to poverty reduction with an area of more than 200 hectares that has been harvested and brought in high and stable income for the people.
The movement to restructure crops with a focus on cassia associated with the movement of farmers emulating production labor, economic development, and helping each other out of poverty is becoming more and more widespread in this land. Mr. Tu said; “In the early years when I married, I mainly planted cassava with limited income, starting from the 2010s onwards, my family focused on growing cassia. Currently, Mr. Tu’s fammily has more than 20 hectares of cassia trees that have been harvested from 500-700 million VND. When conditions permit, Mr. Tu opens an agent trading in agro-forestry products, supplying fertilizers, and purchasing cassia products. For poor households, he lends money without interest and buys fertilizers with deferred payment without interest so that people can get out of poverty.
Cassia has been affirmed as a key crop bringing high economic value, contributing to poverty reduction and enrichment in this locality. Especially, in recent years, people in the commune have implemented the process of organic cassia production, thereby improving the value of cassia trees as well as local cassia products.
Thanks to the cassia tree, Nam Lui soon completed the income criterion in 2020 when the per capita income in the commune reached 36,860 million VND/person/year, in 2022 it is expected to reach over 38 million VND/person/year.
